Estherville News

The 100 Great Iowa Nurses award recognizes nurses that have made meaningful, lasting contributions to their patients, colleagues, and the nursing profession, and are viewed as mentors to other nursing professionals. This year's honorees exemplify all of the principles on which the 100 Great Iowa Nurses Celebration was founded.

Avera Holy Family Hospital is so proud to Congratulate Nancy Diekmann for being named to this prestigious list of 2020's 100 Great Iowa Nurses.

Nancy is the Nurse Manager and responsible for the Med-Surg and ICU departments. Her time is incredibly valuable, however you would never know just how busy she is as she juggles the many responsibilities she has everyday with ease and a friendly smile all while focusing on quality patient care.

Nancy was nominated by the "Shared Decision Work Group" which is the nursing governance committee at Avera Holy Family Hospital.

"As a nurse manager, there are many tasks that need to be completed on a daily basis, from staffing issues to meetings, to assistance with patient care," the nominating group stated in its recommendation. "Although there is little time left in her schedule, Nancy always finds the time to improve patient care."

Not only is Nancy dedicated to Avera Holy Family, she is committed to the community. "Although Nancy is on call 24/7 for nursing staff to contact regarding patient or personnel issues, she still finds time to give to members of her community. She is involved in the community in many ways, from serving meals, to providing nursing services to sharing her talents.

Nancy volunteers at the quarterly community meal, serving meals, helping clear tables, visiting with community members and being a face for Avera. She also volunteers at the Free Clinic, donating hours as a nurse to assess patients free of charge and help people who are uninsured receive much needed medical care. She is also a member of Avera's Relay for Life team and the president of the community based Many Voices Choir which performs several concerts in the community in the spring and at Christmas.

Nancy lives in Estherville with her husband Jim. They have three children, Spenser, Noah, and Molly.
