The Wallingford Fire Department was paged at around 1:37 p.m. Saturday, May 9 to a grove on fire located at 374 St.James Avenue, just East of Wallingford. Firefighters arrived finding several trees and piles of timber on fire, grass and some old vehicles on fire. The fire was spreading quickly and going towards other buildings on the site.

Estherville Fire Department was paged to assist with manpower, engines and tankers.

Firefighters were on scene for approximately 2 hours. No injuries reported. No buildings were damaged.

Firefighters had to use excavators to move trees to extinguish the fire, foam pro packs also used. The wind conditions were also causing a issue with the fire spreading in the grove and catching other contents on fire.

Wallingford Fire Chief Jarrod Fischer said weather and wind conditions from a controlled burn earlier in the week contributed to starting the fire.

Other agencies that assisted were the Emmet County Sheriff's Department, the Emmet County 911 Dispatcher, Emmet County Emergency Management, and Wallingford Ambulance Service
