After winning its first five games, the North Union Softball Team ended last week with losses to a pair of ranked foes.

The week ended with a 5-2 loss to Bishop Garrigan, ranked fifth in Class 1A. Garrigan jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, which proved to be the difference in the contest.

Emily Meyer struck out four batters, walked six and gave up five hits in the loss. The Warriors mustered just four hits-one each by Vanessa VonBank, Shelby Fraker, Maggie Engelby and Ella Ulrich. Ulrich's hit was a double and she had the team's lone RBI.

On Thursday, North Union couldn't keep up with Class 2A No. 6 Central Springs.

The Panthers built a 9-0 lead through the first four innings before North Union scored three in the bottom of the fifth. But the Warriors didn't score again while Central Springs scored five more runs to win 14-3.

Emily Meyer pitched all seven innings, striking out two batters, walking five and hitting one while giving up 14 runs (10 earned) on 12 hits.

The Warriors, who have hit well this season, managed just five hits in the contest with a double by Hope Steinberger and singles by Cassie Beadle, Ella Ulrich, and Sam Nielsen. Steinberger and Olivia VonBank each had an RBI.

On Wednesday, North Union got the timely hits in the Warriors 4-0 victory over Spencer.

Each team had six hits, but the Warriors scored a run each in the fifth and sixth innings an two in the seventh.

At the plate, Hope Steinberger finished 3-4 with a triple and an RBI while Cassie Beadle was 2-4 with an RBI and Shelby Fraker was 1-2. Olivia VonBank also had an RBI.

North Union ace Emily Meyer struck out six Tigers while walking five in the victory.
