Iowa Lakes trustees OK gaming grant applications
ESTHERVILLE–The Iowa Lakes Community College Board of Trustees on Tuesday approved a list of three grant applications to the Palo Alto County Gaming Development Corporation.
The college was awarded two grants in the first year of awards.
The applications, in ranked order, are:
n Equipment for the Emergency Response Training Center in Emmetsburg. The $7,750 funding request would be for communications and smoke system equipment for the Regional Emergency Response Training Center. The communication system would help ensure that participants train safety and a smoke system would be used to simulate various burn scenarios. The grant request would be matched by $2,584 in Fire Service Training Bureau grant funds.
n Virtual IV system. The $16,084 request would provide a virtual IV system for the nursing and paramedic specialist programs and the Palo Alto County Health System. The system would provide IV skills training for nursing and paramedic students at the college and also help train staff at Palo Alto County Hospital. The grant request would be matched by a $4,990 foundation mini-grant and by $372 from Iowa Lakes Community College.
n Smith Wellness Center pool cover. The $10,112 funding request would help increase the pool’s energy efficiency. The grant request would be matched by $3,371 from the college.
The college should learn the status of its grant applications by February.
