Snow a big deal for Alex Foxhoven

By Staff | Dec 27, 2007

The Christmas snow we had this week was probably no big deal for most kids in the Estherville area. But for Alex Foxhoven, 9, of Port St. John, Fla., it was pretty great.

Foxhoven, son of Thomas Foxhoven, 1982 Estherville High School graduate, had a great time sledding Tuesday with his family members, mainly because it was his first time on a sled plus the first time he had even seen snow.

Alex arrived at the Sioux Falls, S.D., airport Saturday where he saw snow for the first time in his life.

“It was pretty awesome,” Alex said. “It was totally wicked.”

Alex’s aunt, Laurie Gineris, bought a couple of sleds so they could go sledding at Joe Hoye.

So how did this beach boy do among the snow bunnies?

“I didn’t get really cold because I had a whole lot of leather on me but my face got pretty cold,” Alex said.

And oh, he had a lot of fun throwing snowballs at his dad at Wal-Mart in Spirit Lake too.

Wednesday was another first when he saw his first snowplow.

So what’s he going to tell his friends when he gets back to the balmy beaches of Florida?

“I will tell them my first time of seeing snow was the best time in my whole life,” Alex said.
