Another 20 things to do before you die

By Staff | Jan 15, 2008

Our bucket list continues today with the next 20 items. After all, you only get one shot–why not make the most of it?

Bicycle the Ring Road around the country of Iceland. It includes some of the most magnificent scenery in the world, including volcanoes and glaciers. While the cost of hotels is horrendous, I was thinking of buying a foldable bike to take on the plane and I’ve located one campsite that costs just $5 per person a day. There are side trips to a glacier upon request.

Build a log cabin. Wouldn’t it be a great sense of accomplishment to make your own cabin? I’d cheat a little bit by using a chain saw and buying the boards and for the roof, but it would still be pretty rewarding.

Kiss the Blarney Stone. Even if you’re not Irish, this is something everybody should try at least once.

Learn to play the bagpipes. This is for those of you who prefer Scotch to Irish.

Visit the Lascaux Cave in France that features some of the most beautiful cave paintings every done. Just imagine what those people had to go through to just survive.

Have a principal role in The Nutcracker ballet. This should appeal to both men and women…well, at least women, anyway.

Play a boom box really loud in the bottom of the Grand Canyon. Imagine the acoustics.

Spit from the observation deck of the Empire State building. Don’t hit anyone though!

Visit the D-Day beaches at Normandy. Pay tribute to the thousands that died there.

Build a fire using only a bow, string, wood, and tinder. This one could take a while.

Take a trip to the Holy Land. If you’re Christian, Jewish, or Moslem, this should appeal to you.

Visit a Buddhist monastery. This should appeal to a lot of those who aren’t fascinated by the Holy Land.

Visit Our Lady of Fatima shrine in Portugal. You don’t even have to be Catholic to appreciate what happened there.

Take a train ride through the Canadian Rockies. This is arguable the most magnificent scenery on earth.

Play a round of golf at Pebble Beach. Make sure you make your reservations in advance and have a few extra hundred dollars to spend.

Drive a Ferrari 612 Scaglietti with the foot to the floor. This car can be had for as little as $263,519. Oh, by the way. Try a nice, safe place like the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah for this one.

Ride a Harley to the Black Hills Motor Classic in Sturgis, S.D. A lot of folks carry their hogs in the bag of a U-Haul truck and unload them at the Whitewood exit. That works too.

Eat a Chicago red hot. These are most definitely the best hot dogs in the world. This is best done watching a Cubbies game.

Enjoy a glass of Chateau Lafitte. If you aren’t a drinker, just ask your priest or minister to use this wine the next time you take communion. You might find yourself attending church a lot more often.

Try surfing at Diamond Head in Hawaii. If you want to wear a life preserver, it’s okay.
