‘Everything is being done according to plans and specifications’ – ELC board hears construction update
ESTHERVILLE–The Estherville Lincoln Central School Board was updated on the middle school construction project by Roger Gilbert, the district’s building representative.
Gilbert said the roof was on the Demoney addition and heat was in the building. “Everything is being done according to plans and specifications,” Gilbert said. Despite temporary delays, Gilbert said work was to continue inside the building Tuesday.
In other business, the board approved the consent agenda which included resignations from Jim West, high-school teacher, May 2008; Stephanie Jensen, middle-school teacher, May 2008; and Heather Birkeland, middle-school teacher associate. New hires approved were Jennifer Gesche, middle-school special needs teacher; and LaVon Phillips, elementary teacher associate. Early retirement requests were approved for Jeanette Lietz and Phil Anderson.
Brian Williams and Sandy Akridge discussed the Second Chance Reading Program.
Williams said the Second Chance Reading Program addresses students determined not proficient in the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills. He said students in both seventh and eighth grades showed an improvement of one-half grade with some students improving a full grade level. He noted the goal is to make students proficient so they don’t have to take the class next year.
The board decided to defer approval of the college softball field agreement until members have time to review the agreement.
After discussing at length the issue of Missing Assignment Sheets as it affects student incentives, the board decided to meet noon Friday to determine a policy on the issue.
