Model citizens – Bumgarner, Wittneben recognized by chamber
There were many accolades as Avera Holy Family Health CEO Bill Bumgarner and Estherville businessman John Wittneben were recognized for their contributions to the business community Monday night. Bumgarner and Wittneben were both feted at the 2008 Estherville Area Chamber of Commerce and Estherville Industrial Development Corporation awards banquet and auction at the Estherville Elks Lodge.
Bumgarner, who has overseen the greatest improvements at the hospital in living memory, was quick to share credit to others for Avera Holy Family Health’s recent milestones.
“So many people need to be involved,” Bumgarner said. “My life and my work have brought me to six different communities. I can’t tell you how special this place has been.”
In addition to his leadership position at Avera Holy Family, Bumgarner has been involved in depth with community projects. Bumgarner later spent time at length elaborating on Excel! Estherville, the community strategic plan unveiled Monday night.
A public informational meeting on Excel! Estherville will be held 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday in Room 16 at Iowa Lakes Community College.
Wittneben was recognized as Citizen of the Year for his tireless efforts in making community improvements. He was lauded for his work as president of the Estherville Rotary Club, an officer with the Friends of Fort Defiance, and for his volunteer efforts during the annual Estherville Area Chamber of Commerce Fourth of July Flight Breakfast and many other community activities.
Wittneben is sole proprietor of Wittneben Surveying, Inc.
