Graettinger, Terril expand sharing arrangement – Grades K-5 included in new aggreement

By Staff | Jan 25, 2008

GRAETTINGER — The Graettinger and Terril Boards of Education approved a modification to their existing whole grade sharing agreement at their respective meetings Tuesday evening. The present agreement is for grades 6-12. Grades 6-8 attend the Terril/Graettinger Middle School in Terril and grades 9-12 attend the Graettinger/Terril High School in Graettinger.

The modified agreement includes grades K-5 as well. Kindergarten through second grade will be housed in Graettinger and third through fifth grade will attend the Terril building. This modification is effective through the remainder of the term of the agreement, which is through the 2012 academic year.

This agreement creates stability for both districts. For the past three years, each board has had to wrestle with the issue of small elementary class sizes. For the 2007-2008 school year, grades four and five were shared due to low enrollment numbers. All fourth graders from Graettinger and Terril presently attend the Graettinger Elementary Center and all fifth graders are members of the Terril/Graettinger Middle School. This agreement alleviates the question of where grade levels would be housed on a yearly basis.

This expanded sharing begins next fall for the 2008-2009 school year. Grades K-2 and 9-12 will attend the Graettinger center and grades 3-8 will attend the Terril center. Each center will maintain a preschool as long as this is financially feasible.
