Estherville Elks donate dictionaries – Third-graders receive personalized gift

By Staff | Jan 30, 2008

People who don’t know that of which they speak, often obfuscate the truth.

Don’t know what ‘obfuscate’ means.

Ask an Estherville Lincoln Central third grader.

Estherville Elks Lodge No. 528 distributed dictionaries to each student in the five ELC third-grade sections Tuesday morning. Each was labeled with each student’s name.

Kalcey Harvey, Ron Menendez and Exalted Ruler Russ Richard of the local lodge distributed the dictionaries with help from the teachers.

“Thanks to Kris Schlievert and the teachers for helping to make sure everyone received a dictionary and organizing the presentation assembly,” said Menendez, the Elks youth activities chairman. “It was a fun event for the kids and us.”

The dictionaries include an almanac and historical information. Also, Spanish-English dictionaries were provided to each third-grade classroom.

The Estherville lodge will distribute dictionaries to third graders at the Armstrong-Ringsted, Graettinger and Terril school districts in the coming weeks.

This is the first year the Estherville lodge has participated in the fraternal organization’s national program which distributes dictionaries to third-graders throughout the country.

The dictionaries distributed on Monday were purchased with funds from the local lodge’s youth activity program.
