A-R could save $50,000 by refinancing bonds
Refinancing bonds for the north addition on the Armstrong facility could save the Armstrong-Ringsted Community School District $40,000 to $50,000, and the district intends to look further into it.
Meeting Monday night in Ringsted, the board learned that it could save by refinancing due to lower interest rates. The issue will be on the agenda for the March 24 board meeting.
In other business, the board discussed and approved the 2008-09 school calendar. By starting classes Aug. 21 and having classes up to Dec. 23, the school year could conclude by Memorial Day, including snow days.
The board also discussed revisiting tri-district strategic planning with North Kossuth and Sentral school districts. “That was a resounding yes,” Superintendent Randy Collins said of the board’s sentiments regarding the issue.
North Kossuth and Sentral are currently having their own discussions regarding strategic planning.
Board President Rod Foster will invite the presidents of the North Kossuth and Sentral boards to resume tri-district planning.
The board approved second reading of the Civility Policy to accommodate changes in the Iowa Code. Previous board policies deferred to the school board authority to remove an individual from school grounds. The new policy would allow the superintendent or designee to have an individual removed.
