Sheriff compiles February report

By Staff | Mar 11, 2008

Bad weather and icy roads kept the Emmet County Sheriff‚s Department busy during February with accidents and vehicles in the ditches.

A total of 26 accidents were reported last month and eight of them involved $1,000 or more in damages, two personal injury accidents and one snowmobile fatality.

A total of 73 calls were handled and included two assault reports (two juveniles cited), one burglary complaint (one charged with first degree burglary) and one vandalism to a vehicle (two juveniles charged).

Due partly to bad weather and icy road conditions, citations dropped during February. There were 38 citations issued, including: speeding, 22; first degree burglary, 1; no insurance, 2; OWI, 1; no driver‚s license, 2; failure to maintain control, 1; fifth degree criminal mischief, 2; assault, 2; and carrying a loaded gun in a vehicle, 1.

Prisoner numbers were down again this past month with 29 individuals being processed in the Emmet County Jail and three adult transports in February.

Civil work included 40 arrest warrants, 73 garnishments and 56 small claims notices.
