Opera in Estherville

Opera Iowa will present Don Pasquale 7 p.m. Monday, March 17 at Roosevelt Auditorium. The performance will be in conjunction with a series of workshops at Estherville Lincoln Central.

Three workshops will be held at Roosevelt Monday afternoon for students in third-fifth grades from 12:45-1:15 p.m. in the middle-school band room, cafeteria, and big gym.

A production of Billy Goats Gruff will be held for kindergarten-fifth grades and choir students in sixth-eighth grades at 2 p.m. n the auditorium.

The 7 p.m. Monday performance of Don Pasquale will be open to the public and a freewill donation will be accepted.

OPERA Iowa’s 22nd annual tour is an award-winning program designed to bring music education to life while exciting students about opera as an art form and the educational touring troupe of Des Moines Metro Opera.

Metro Opera’s educational touring troupe hit the road for its 2008 tour on Jan. 28. During the 10-week tour, the group is performing John Davies’ The Billy Goats Gruff and Gaetano Donizetti’s Don Pasquale in some 65 schools in 34 Midwestern communities for approximately 25,000 school-aged children. The school performances are presented in conjunction with interactive and engaging workshops that meet the National Standards for Arts in Education guidelines.

Founded in 1986, OPERA Iowa is launching its 22nd season with performances of The Billy Goads Gruff by John Davies for elementary students and Donizetti’s comedy Don Pasquale for older students and evening audiences. The troupe will present evening concert performances of Don Pasquale in eight other communities in Iowa, including Forest City, Leon, Waukon, Preston, Corydon, and Estherville, as well as Mankato, Minn., and Park Hills, Mo.
