50 counts of sexual exploitation charged
On Sunday, April 13 , officers from the Estherville Police Department executed a search warrant at 312 N. Sixth St., Estherville as the department was investigating a complaint regarding photos of minor females engaged in sexual acts.
As a result of the search warrant, a large amount of photos and videos, two computers and an external computer hard drive were seized.
On Monday, April 14, an arrest warrant was obtained by the Estherville Police Department for Lowell Duane Johnson, 58, 312 N. Sixth St. He was charged with 50 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor. Each count is an aggravated misdemeanor, punishable by two years in prison and/or up to a $5,000 fine. Johnson’s warrant had a bond set at $325,000 and he is scheduled to appear before the Emmet County Magistrate today. The investigation is ongoing.
Captain Brent Shatto of the Estherville Police Department commended the investigator and the officers who assisted in this difficult case, as well as the citizens who provided information.
He reminds that it is the civic duty of all citizens to report criminal activity and to set the standards for Estherville.
