Excel! Estherville representatives invite members of the public to a special event next week focused on recruiting volunteers to participate in implementing a comprehensive community strategic plan.

The informational and committee member recruitment kick-off party will be held on Tuesday, May 6 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the breakfast room of the Estherville Sleep Inn & Suites. Chairpersons of Excel! Estherville committees will be introduced at the event and information will be shared about the focus of the various committees.

“We have set a goal to recruit 100 volunteers over the next 100 days,” said Excel! Estherville leadership committee member Sue Nelson. “There are nine committees to be staffed and it our hope we will be able to encourage a diverse group of community members to support this important effort.”

Sign-up sheets will be available at the event. Excel! Estherville committees include arts/culture, beautification, community relations, diversity, existing business, housing, new business, recreation and tourism.

Nelson said community members can also volunteer by accessing the Estherville Area Chamber of Commerce web site at http://www.estherville.org/ and following the directions in the Excel! Estherville section of the web page. Interested individuals can also contact the Chamber of Commerce office directly.

The Excel! Estherville strategic plan includes eight overarching goals and more than 30 specific strategies. It was developed over a several month period during 2007 drawing on a wide range of community input such a personal interviews, an on-line community survey and a plan development working group. It also includes developing a long-term financial plan to support implementation of community betterment initiatives.
