“It’s such an improvement over what we had,” Naturalist Anita Fisher said of the new 4,500-square-foot facility that replaces the rented offices which the Emmet County Conservation Board previously occupied on East Central Avenue.
The Nature Center includes a general display area and interpretive exhibits with hands-on displays, classroom space, office and work space, and a board room/meeting room.
To date, over $300.000 has been committed in pledges and donations to the new building which will have a total overall cost of $490,000 including furnishings and exhibits when completed.
The first-ever Emmet County Foundation Nature Center banquet held March 29 netted over $20,000 toward the Nature Center. The banquet is slated to be an annual event.
