County chooses rep for IDOT meeting
Emmet County Board of Supervisors Chair Alan Madden will represent the county in an Aug. 12 presentation before the Iowa Department of Transportation in Sioux City.
Estherville City Administrator Steve Woodley requested the county appoint a representative when he appeared before the board of supervisors Tuesday.
Woodley recapped a May 29 planning meeting at the Iowa Lakes Corridor office in Spencer. At the meeting, Corridor representatives assembled an agenda that includes a request for improvements for Highway 9 as well as continuing the four lane plan of Highway 20 and improvements to Highway 86.
The Corridor will hold another planning meeting Thursday, July 10 on the matter.
Woodley thought it best that there be a point person representing each highway funding request. Regarding Highway 9, Woodley said oversized loads on Highway 9 could be a reason to address the issue before the DOT. He also stressed that someone other than he could best represent the county’s interests. “I think it would be more appropriate to have someone from the county.”
Madden agreed to represent Emmet County on the Highway 9 issue. Woodley said there are also representatives for Highway 86 from Dickinson County and Highway 20 from Buena Vista County.
