Fourth of July sparkles with fun
ARMSTRONG – Armstrong is the place to be this Fourth of July weekend.
The 5K and one-mile fun run/walk starts at 8 a.m. Friday, July 4 followed by the Beautiful Baby Contest at 10 a.m. At 10:30 a.m. the soap box derby and car show begin.
The big event, the annual Fourth of July parade, starts at 1 p.m. followed by a free watermelon feed and entertainment in the park from 2-3:30 p.m. The firemen’s water fight and “Armstrong’s Got Talent” talent show both start at 3:30 p.m.
A pulled pork supper will be served up at 5 p.m. with fireworks at 10 p.m.
Food stands will be available all day Friday in the park. Raffle prizes include a bicycle, Nintendo Wii, $100 and handmade quilt.
On Saturday, the Armstrong Betterment Club and Armstrong Pool Committee will hold their fundraiser at Armstrong City Park.
The cattlemen’s supper will be held from 6-8 p.m. with a free-will donation accepted. The meal includes a ribeye sandwich, baked beans, pasta salad, and carrot cupcake with all proceeds going toward the Armstrong pool.
A mechanical bull will be a available both for everyone who wants to try his riding skills for $5 a ride. The bull will be available for rides Friday after the parade until 8 a.m. and from 6 p.m. to midnight Saturday. All proceeds go to the Armstrong pool.
The beer garden will be open from 6 p.m. to midnight with beer, Bacardi Raz, Mike’s Lemonade, Mike’s Cranberry, pop, and water with all proceeds going to the ABC Club and pool.
A street dance will be held from 8 p.m. to midnight with no cover.
Minors must leave by 11 p.m.
