The Iowa National Guard has announced the gates at Estherville Lincoln Central’s Hoyt-Luithly Football Field, will open on Friday, July 11 at 12:30 p.m. to the public for the welcome ceremony tentatively set to begin at 1:30 p.m.
Members of the Patriot Guard Riders are asked to meet at the car wash located on the south side of Emmetsburg on Highway 4 at noon.
According to Lt. Col. Greg Hapgood, public affairs officer in Johnston, approximately 330 soldiers were mobilized from the 1st Battalion, 194th Field Artillery ad Company A, 1st Battalion, 133rd Infantry for this mission to Kosovo.
The core mission is to provide direct and indirect artillery fires, and coordinate artillery and mortar fires and and close air support for combat units in a theater of operations.
In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held at the Iowa National Guard Armory, 403 S. 18th St., Estherville.
Members of the local Guard unit is expressing a special thank you to the nine Estherville businesses which graciously donated drinking water for those attending the welcome home ceremony. About 1,000 bottles were contributed by Ace Hardware, Dakota Pack, Fareway Stores Inc., HyVee Store, Pepsi Americas (Estherville), Inman Electric/Radio Shack, Roy’s Auto, Stall’s True Value and Estherville Sears.
