Excel! still seeking volunteers

By Staff | Jul 29, 2008

Excel! Estherville continues to recruit members to serve on the nine committees which are the foundation of the wide ranging community strategic plan initiative.

“While we have been extremely successful in recruiting volunteers to serve on committees, we are still encouraging additional participation,” said Sue Nelson, a member of the Excel! Estherville leadership committee. “It has always been our intent to seek a variety of individuals that make Estherville such a wonderful community.”

The Excel! Estherville committee structure and chairpersons are Arts and Culture, Brenda Marks; Beautification, Bob Jensen; Community Relations, Holle Smith; Diversity, Karen Miller-Moritz; Existing Business, Kevin Sander; Housing, Gene Haukoos; New Business, Chris Sorensen; Recreation, Roger Hash; and Tourism, Scott Olk.

Nelson said community members can volunteer by accessing the Estherville Area Chamber of Commerce web site at www.estherville.org and following the directions in the Excel! Estherville section of the web page. Community members can also call the Chamber Office or a committee chairperson to volunteer.

“Our committees have begun meeting and everyone is optimistic about the possibilities that Excel! Estherville holds for the community,” said Nelson. “For anyone who has been looking for a way to get more involved in community life, this is an exceptional opportunity.”

The Excel! Estherville strategic plan includes eight overarching goals and more than 30 specific strategies.

It was developed over a several month period during 2007 drawing on a wide range of community input such a personal interviews, an on-line community survey and a plan development working group.
