Iowa Lakes and Buena Vista sign articulation agreement

Iowa Lakes Community College President Dr. Harold Prior and Buena Vista University President Fred Moore Monday signed an articulation agreement for BVU’s new bachelor of applied studies degree.

Iowa Lakes Community College and Buena Vista University Monday finalized an articulation agreement and announced BVU’s new bachelor of applied studies degree.

Buena Vista University President Fred Moore and Iowa Lakes President Dr. Harold Prior signed the agreement which smoothens the transition of students who wish to transfer from Iowa Lakes to BVU. BVU and Iowa Lakes have actually been partners in education for 31 years. That was when BVU located a center at the Iowa Lakes Spencer campus.

“Buena Vista’s been a leader in the nation for taking education to where the students are,” Prior said in making the announcement, “They’re one of our absolute best partners in education.”

“You do an absolutely fine job,” Moore said. With the agreement, students graduating from Iowa Lakes with an associate of applied science degree can transfer into the bachelor of applied studies at BVU. “It is truly a wonderful partnership,” Moore said.

The bachelor of applied studies program is also designed to meet the needs of community college graduates and other institutions who have completed associate degrees in science, applied science, and applied arts and who want to earn a baccalaureate degree. The program is also open to students who have earned comparable degrees from foreign institutions with which BVU has sister-school agreements.

The degree program is available through both the Storm Lake Campus and BVU’s Professional and Online Studies program which as 14 locations throughout Iowa including the Iowa Lakes campuses at Estherville, Spirit Lake, Emmetsburg and Spencer.

Students who have the designated associate degrees will have already completed the majority of their major program of study at a community college or other accredited institution. They will come to BVU to finish their general education requirements and complete 36 credit hours at the 300/400 level, which are upper division courses available to BVU juniors and seniors.
