Housing trust approved

By Staff | Jul 30, 2008

The Emmet County Board of Supervisors Tuesday approved a resolution to join the Northwest Iowa Regional Housing Trust.

The trust would provide a means to help fund home improvement by providing local matching funds for state and federal grants.

Supervisor Jim Jenson moved that the board approve the resolution, and Supervisor Randy Beaver agreed that it would be a good place to allocate the 1-cent sales tax.

“It fits that criteria exactly,” Jenson agreed.

“It would help our communities better themselves,” said Beaver.

Jenson said he had told Northwest Iowa Planning and Development Commission representatives, who are organizing the trust, that he would be willing to serve on the trust board.

After approving the resolution, the board acted on a number of other issues, including:

n Appointed Supervisor Ron Smith to the Upper Des Moines Opportunity Board.

n Set informational meetings on the Aug. 26 1-cent sales tax election. The meetings will be held 7 p.m. Aug. 12 in the Emmet County Courthouse Board Room and 7 p.m. Aug. 19 in Ringsted, tentatively scheduled at the Community Center.

n County Engineer Roger Patocka gave the road report which included utility permits for Iowa Lakes Regional Water and Iowa Lakes Electric Co-op.
