Sweet times in Estherville!
It was a golden moment when the Sweet Corn Days Recipe Cook-Off kicked off Friday events on North Seventh Street.
Nine entries were entered and included recipes from dips to desserts and souffles.
First-time participants Sunny and Kim Koenck of Estherville entered separate dishes. Sunny made Koenck’s Corny Choco Chili, a combination of ground beef, cocoa and corn. He has been whipping up his chili for five years.
Kim entered her recipe for Southwest Sweet Corn Cups, which include taco cheese, cream cheese, corn and taco seasoning.
Peggy Manwarren entered two dishes, a main dish and a dessert. Her main dish, corn souffle with bacon consists of egg whites, bacon, corn, jalapenos and red peppers, onions and celery.
Her dessert, sweet corn cake, is made of corn, flour, sugar, cornmeal and cream.
For only $1, those in the audience could buy a spoon and sample all of the dishes. Winners of the cook-off are:
