Open house at Iowa Lakes

By Staff | Aug 6, 2008

Area residents who are looking at getting additional education are invited to attend an open house planned for Wednesday at the Estherville campus of Iowa Lakes Community College.

The Estherville campus open house will be held from 4-8 p.m. Refreshments will be served.

Several faculty advisors for Career Option and Arts and Science course work will be available to assist students in registering. And, for those interested in taking online courses, experts will be available to help potential students determine if the online option is suitable for them.

Offices will also be open during the Estherville open house. They include the Admissions office, Business office and the College Bookstore. Questions for the Estherville campus will be answered at (712) 362-2604 or 1-866-IA-LAKES.

Mary Larscheid, executive dean of the Estherville campus, said one noteworthy exhibit in front of the main campus building on South 18th Street will be an airplane from the aviation program.

Visitors who have not been on campus for some time will find new additions such as The Max student center and the atrium area. A new wrestling facility is currently under construction.

Another fairly recent change is the relocation of the computer lab to the library.

“That is one of he cornerstones of higher education,” Larscheid said. “That’s one of the things we’ve done very intentionally.”

The Estherville campus has also recently added a new sustainable energy management program under direction of Gary Phillips, director of environmental studies.

Whether, a person is changing careers, just finishing high school or looking for a college close to home, Iowa Lakes is available to help them reach their dream.
