GRUVER – The Gruver Fire Department acquired more firepower to do its job, purchasing a 2008 GMC Top Kick 1,900 gallon tanker earlier this month.

The tanker cost $106,500 and gives them a fleet of five vehicles.

However, the local unit is working to acquire more new equipment.

On Saturday, Aug. 23, the fire department will host a fundraising supper with proceeds going toward updating air masks and replacing fire suits. Supper will be served from 5-7 p.m. at the Gruver Fire Station. The firemen will serve beef and pork patties, potato salad, chips, beans, bars and a drink.

The 16-man department covers the townships of Ellsworth, Swan Lake, Center, Lincoln and Jack Creek.
