Crash impact ejects driver
Charges are pending following the collision of a semi-tractor trailer and van in Emmet County Monday which injured both drivers and a passenger in the truck.
According to the report on file with the Emmet County Sheriff’s Department, the accident occurred at 7:16 a.m. in the intersection of 140th Street and 500th Avenue when the semi-tractor trailer combination, hauling a load of pigs, was heading west on 140th and being driven by Vernon Delbert Platz of Springfield, Minn.
Chad Michael Taylor of Fairmont was driving the southbound mini-van on 500th Avenue.
Sheriff Larry Lamack said these vehicles collided within the intersection which is uncontrolled. Taylor was ejected from the van, which had the right of way, when it struck the side of the semi on the passenger side.
The Estherville Ambulance Service transported Platz and his 10-year-old son, Jaden, also of Springfield, Minn., while Taylor was taken by the Armstrong Ambulance Service. All were taken to Avera Holy Family.
Taylor was taken by helicopter to another facility due to the extent of his injuries.
“Motorists driving on country roads during this time of year need to slow down at intersections and look for oncoming traffic due to standing cornfields,” Lamack said.
