Woman facing multiple charges
A total of $24,300 in cash bonds for four criminal charges were filed against an Estherville resident following a police investigation into sexual assault.
Estherville Police Department Captain Brent Shatto said a complaint was received on July 28 from a mother who advised her 16-year-old son had been supplied with drugs and alcohol and had been sexually assaulted in the City of Estherville.
Shatto said, “The alleged crimes took place in the early morning hours of July 27.”
Following the investigation, police determined the teen had been at a party at the residence located at 706 South 14th St. “While at the party, the 16-year-old was provided with alcohol, illegal drugs and was sexually assaulted by 24-year-old Ashlie Mitchell,” the police captain said.
Arrest warrants were obtained on Mitchell. Shatto said the first warrant was for a gathering where controlled substance were used. The bond was $1,950 cash.
The second warrant was on the charge of supplying alcohol to a minor with a cash bond of $1,950. The third warrant was for the distribution of controlled substances to persons under the age of 18 years of age with a cash bond of $6,500.
The fourth warrant was on the charge of third degree sexual abuse with a cash bond of $13,000.
The captain said the first two charges of serious misdemeanors while the third one is a Class D Felony. The fourth one is a Class C Felony.
On Aug. 19, the defendant turned herself in to police. She was taken before the Emmet County magistrate and was released from custody on unsecured bonds.
