Swimming pool passes hold steady
The end-of-season pool log, discussion on the South 15th Street Trail and completion of officer election were the top agenda items of the Estherville Parks and Recreation Board meeting Monday.
“It was not a warm pool season,” said Dave Spurgin, parks and recreation director. “But it was comparable to last year.”
He noted season passes had held steady. “It’s a good year if we have 10,000 people in a 60-day season.”
For no specific reason, swimmers seem to lose interest in going to the pool in August.
In other business, the remaining slate of officers was approved with Gary Phillips assuming the vice chairmanship position and Pat Hall, the secretary role.
Discussion then turned to the South 15th Street Trail with emphasis placed on signage and benches.
“We need a (sign) design to go to Prison Industries,” Spurgin told the board. Recycled plastic construction is being considered for the three benches.
The board also discussed the spacing of signs and considered placement at each quarter mile.
Spurgin said ABC Services hopes to begin the trail work by the end of September.
