Calling all Girl Scouts

By Staff | Sep 10, 2008

Are you a girl between kindergarten through high-school age who likes to bowl?

Then Girl Scout Sign-up Day is for you.

From 1-3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14 at Imperial Lanes in Estherville, girls signing up for Girl Scouts will get one free line of bowling. Girls who signed up for Girl Scouts earlier this year are also eligible for the free bowling offered to all eligible girls in the Estherville, Armstrong, Ringsted and Graettinger areas.

According to Marlene Walthart, Girl Scout leader organizing the event, the Girl Scouts have always held a September activity to help get girls signed up.

“This is a push to get ready for the upcoming year,” Walthart said. Girl Scout leaders will pay for the bowling.

Girls must be in kindergarten to be eligible for membership as a Daisy. Walthart said all girls in kindergarten through eighth grade received a flyer about the sign-up.

The sign-up is not limited to younger girls, Walthart noted. She said older girls can sign up as independent Girl Scouts and not be in a troop.
