Pioneer Day at Peterson Point Saturday
Hitch up the team and roll on over to the Peterson Point Pioneer Day this Saturday at Peterson Point on High Lake.
The event this year runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Lunch will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will include turkey sandwiches with dressing, chips and drink. Entertaining from noon to 2 p.m. will be Steve Mann and the Cornerstone band. ‘Ole and Lena’, Bill Hansen and Anita Larsen, will perform at 2 p.m.
Throughout the day, Verna Hansen will do signings of her book Snapshots: Memories of an Iowa Farmgirl. The Buffalo Ridge Renegades will do blacksmithing, shinglemaking, rope making, organ music, and various other living history activities. There will also be spinning, quilting, and various other pioneer-era demonstrations.
There will be buckboard rides from Wolden Park to Peterson Point with parking at the Wolden recreation area.
The Peterson family homesteaded this farm on High Lake in 1866 and lived there for many years. The farmstead has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places which includes a restored farmhouse, barn, and various outbuildings.
Peterson Point is located east of Wallingford on County Roads A34 and N40 just south of Wolden Campground.
