SPIRIT LAKE – Two 13-year-old youths were arrested Saturday night after allegedly shooting car windows of passing cars with air rifles along Highway 86 in Dickinson County.

The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office was called to the area of Highway 86 and 140th Street Saturday at about 8:44 p.m. Two drivers had stopped there, reporting their vehicle windows were shot while traveling southbound on Highway 86.

The sheriff’s office requested assistance from neighboring agencies. Officers secured the scene and the Multi-Agency Response Team was activated. A perimeter was established and the M.A.R.T. team cleared the area where the shooters were believed to be. Because of the possibility of shots fired, Highway 86 was closedfrom Highway 9 to the Minnesota state line for approximately five hours.

After investigating, it was determined that two 13-year-old boys had fired air rifles at passing vehicles in the area of Highway 86 and 130th Street. The case remains under investigation and charges are expected.
