The first-ever Black Knights Car Club drag races at the Estherville Airport were a big success, with over 800 people showing up to watch 97 racers pair up for drags on the airport runway.

“It went way beyond my expectations,” said Marty Domek, Black Knights secretary. He said the club might possibly hold two drags next year with one scheduled again for the third week in September,

Domek thanked Jon McCorkell of Jackson Speedway for the use of headphones to help the race personnel keep things running smoothly.

Domek also thanked the Gruver and Estherville volunteer fire departments and Estherville Ambulance Service for standing by – fortunately, no help was needed.

“It will be interesting to see how it goes next year,” Domek said.
