Supervisors look at closing dam bridge

By Staff | Sep 24, 2008

The Emmet County Board of Supervisors Tuesday leaned that the long era of a bridge over the Swan Lake dam could soon be coming to a close.

County Engineer Roger Patocka said the bridge, currently with a two-ton limit, served a Level B road and at some point will need to be closed. He said it would be hard to find money to replace a bridge on a Level B road.

In other business, Patocka discussed road projects, approved a joint study for drainage ditch cleanout with Palo Alto County and referred the matter of an ordinance addressing liability for county liability to bicyclists during RAGBRAI and similar events to county attorney Doug Hansen.

The ordinance, developed by the Iowa State Association of Counties, is in response to a lawsuit against Crawford County following RAGBRAI several years ago.
