Fire destroys combine

WALLINGFORD – A combine was considered a total loss with $25,000 in damages when it caught fire on the Steve Schacherer farm southwest of Wallingford Thursday.

Wallingford Fire Department Chief Jarrod Fischer said a call came in to the department at 2:09 p.m. Wallingford Fire Department and EMS units responded. The Emmet County Sheriff’s Department also assisted. The Estherville Fire Department was called but the call was canceled.

Fischer said the fire apparently began in the engine area of the combine. He said there were no injuries or crop damage. Fire units were on the scene for about 90 minutes.

Fischer said Schacherer owned the combine.
