Local man life-flighted after morning accident

A 21-year-old Estherville man was life-flighted to a medical facility in Sioux Falls following a single-vehicle accident early Friday morning.

According to information from the Estherville Police Department, a call was received at 3:39 a.m. in regard to the accident which occurred in the intersection of Highway 4 and South First Street in Estherville.

Officers responded to the scene and determined the driver was Nicholas Erickson. Initial investigation shows Erickson had been traveling eastbound on South First Street when his 1991 Buick Regal left the roadway and collided with the embankment on the east side of Highway 4.

The driver was transported to Avera Holy Family Hospital by the Estherville Ambulance Service. He was then transferred to the South Dakota facility.

The accident remains under investigation by the Estherville Police Department and the Iowa State Patrol.

The police department was assisted by the Estherville Ambulance Service, and a deputy from the Emmet County Sheriff’s Department.
