License plate found on scene

Property damage behind the Estherville Lincoln Central Middle School is estimated to be $1,500 following a weekend traffic accident involving a single vehicle.

According to the traffic accident report, at 8:27 a.m. on Oct. 11, Estherville police were contacted about a hit-and-run accident behind the school building at the intersection of Fourth Avenue North and North Fifth Street.

The report noted there were no vehicles on the scene when officers arrived to investigate.

Officers observed the City of Estherville’s street light pole was completely out of the ground and the school’s chain link fence was knocked over.

Also documented was the fact that debris from the damages was scattered all over the playground. Found in the debris was an Iowa license plate with the number 362SSJ which comes back to a 1997 Chevrolet S10 pick-up truck owned by Darren Alan Peterson of Estherville.

Other information on the report noted the estimated damage to the fence was listed at $1,000 while light pole damage were set at $500.
