Ringsted awarded $225,000 firefighter grant
RINGSTED – The Ringsted Fire Department was recently awarded a $225,150 Assistance to Firefighters Grant from the Federal Emergency Management Administration.
According to Ringsted Fire Department Chief Dan Jorgensen, it was the third year that the department had applied for the grant. Two years ago, Ringsted, as sponsoring agency, applied for a $750,000 grant and last year for $500,000, with both those grants turned down.
The grant award this year will go for digital repeaters that will be mounted on existing towers throughout the county, mobile radios and walkie talkies, all for enhancing the communication upgrade now ongoing in the county law enforcement center.
Jorgensen said ambulance personnel and firefighters will be the main entities to get the mobile radios and walkie talkies.
Ringsted Fire Department will have to come up with a 5 percent match for the grant and there is one year to complete the project, Jorgensen said.
