County foundation awards area grants

By Staff | Jun 12, 2009

This week the Emmet County Community Foundation announced its grant awards for 2009. A total of $96,554 was awarded to 22 area non-profit agencies and organizations for the benefit of Emmet County and its residents. Thirty-four grant requests were received with grant funding requests of nearly $200,000.

The goals of the community foundation are to act as a county wide endowment, to be a resource for a broad range of community needs and to assist donors in creating a lasting legacy through a variety of giving options. Grants assist local organizations in human and community development as needs are identified throughout the county and solutions are developed to meet community concerns.

The Emmet County Endowment Fund program is funded by a percentage of the state’s commercial casino gaming tax revenue and facilitates our ability to build philanthropic impact in our county.

Each non-gaming entity county shares in this funding. In addition to grant funding, a portion of the funds received also fund a permanent endowment for Emmet County.

Emmet County has received over $340,000 in the past four years to help jump-start its own fund growth while making grants to address current needs as well.

The foundation board encourages organizations to begin planning now for ways in which the Emmet County Community Foundation could be a partner in helping to achieve their goals and implement their plans to benefit Emmet County.
