Worker rescued from grain bin

ARMSTRONG – Law enforcement and medical personnel were dispatched Thursday morning to Stateline Coop in Armstrong where a man was trapped inside a grain bin.

According to information from Emmet County Sheriff Mike Martens, the dispatcher received the emergency call at 10:05 a.m. The Armstrong Fire Department, emergency medical services and the sheriff’s office responded to the scene.

It was soon discovered that an employee was inside a grain bin containing soybeans and became entrapped by the grain. Rescuers were able to extricate the victim from the grain in about two hours of effort.

At 12:02 p.m., the victim was transported to the Fairmont Community Hospital by the Armstrong Ambulance Service.

The Ringsted and Swea City fire departments assisted at the scene as well as many local volunteers.
