Ready to race
If the phone calls are any indication, expect several thousand to attend the second-annual Black Knights Car Club drags at Estherville Municipal Airport.
That was the rough estimate of race coordinator Eric Anderson.
“I am going to guess it’s going to be overwhelming,” Anderson said, noting 97 racers last year plus 820 paid admission. “I don’t think it would be too far off to triple it,” Anderson said.
Anderson said as of midmorning Friday he had received calls from St. Paul, Minn., 40 miles east of Rochester, Minn., and Mason City.
The Black Knights have traveled far and wide to other car shows throughout the region, drumming up entries for the Sweet Cars Show during Estherville’s Sweet Corn Days in August. Both the number of entries and visitors were overwhelming.
The same goes for Sunday’s drags which will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The pits open at 9 a.m.
Admission is $2 a person and racers pay $5 a race and $20 for all day. Absolutely no alcohol at all whatsoever will be permitted. Trailers are also prohibited from the grounds.
Cars must be all stock with no slicks and be licensed and insured.
Barb Blaise is coordinating concessions and a number of nonprofit organizations will offer food during Sunday’s races.
Any racers who have questions about the event may call Marty Domek at 712-209-0644.
