City workers seek 5 percent

By Staff | Oct 23, 2009

Estherville city administrator Penny Clayton and city clerk Vaughn Brua heard initial proposal from union representatives for the 2010-11 Public Works Labor agreement.

The city and its workers are currently in the middle of a two-year agreement with only wages open to negotiations this year.

Local 79, United Food and Commercial Workers, were represented by local president Dale Bradley, vice president Dennis Lukins and Bill Olesen.

The union proposed a 5 percent increase in the individual hourly wage for each unit member.

Last year, city workers received a 5.5 percent increase.

Under Iowa law, the first two bargaining sessions are open to the public. The city and union officials tentatively scheduled the next open session for the city to present its proposal on Wednesday, Nov. 4.
