Honor flight for veterans planned

Next spring, area World War II veterans will have the opportunity to take part in an honor flight to Washington D.C. to view the monument to that war and other war memorials.

The first area fundraiser to help pay for the flights is scheduled for 6 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 14 at the Wild Rose Casino in Emmetsburg. The event includes a dinner buffet and program. The event is also an opportunity for people to sign up as well as volunteers and guardians that want to go along.

Emmet County Veterans Affairs Director Larry Sundall said applications for the honor flight are availalbe at his office at 508 S. First St. in Estherville.

“We don’t know where the flight will go out from yet, but our hope is to get the guys from this area to go together,” Sundall said.

Wild Rose Casino is the host agency with local county Vetarans Affairs offices coordinating and submitting information, said Sundall.
