GRAETTINGER – A few Graettinger/Terril graduates struggled to follow the advice of their class motto at commencement on Sunday in Graettinger.

The motto?

“Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.”

Tears still flowed for some as 21 seniors bid farewell to their high-school days.

Commencement opened with the processional by Mrs. Garnet Voigt followed by Dakota Hovinga issuing the welcome.

Under the direction of Anne Sexe, the concert choir and then the female choir members each sang one song.

In reminiscing about school memories, seniors Kelsey Hart and Phillip Schmitt diverged from a recent-years tradition of highlighting an event during each grade of their school years. Instead the duo presented a memory of each graduate.

The audience then watched a slide show of the seniors showing them in their senior picture and also as a youth.

Hovinga and Amanda Oleson gave the valedictorian address.

Principal Chris Richards presented the class and Kevin Jensen, Roger Schmitt, Larry Flaharty and Randy Collins presented the diplomas.

Tasha Neilson and Taylor Harris presented the class picture to Collins and Cody Dyhrkopp gave the closing comments.

The Graettinger/Terril Class of 2010 is Hunter Allen Clayton, Cody Allen Dyhrkopp, Brianna Jade Girres Schubert, Taylor James Harris, Tyler Michael Harris, Kelsey Lyn Hart, Dakota Kay Hovinga, Michael James Jensen, Taylor Paige Jepsen, Brandon Michael Laidig, Joseph Dean Moore, Tasha Lynn Neilson, Mary Elizabeth Niemann, Amanda Lynn Oleson, Jeffrey Eugene Petrich, Jacob Guy Powell, Phillip Edward Schmitt, Drew Bradley Skattebo, Sandra Lynn Smith, Dillon Frank Thiner and Morgan Marie Whitney.
