Fun with Danes

Morgan Anderson was crowned Little Miss Mermaid Friday night in the kickoff of Danish Festival Days in Ringsted.

Helping to crown Morgan was Emily Michalec, Little Miss Mermaid 2009. The other members of Anderson’s mermaid court were Logan White, Jordan Garrett and Samantha McIntire,

Also Friday night, Emmet County Sate Bank employees prepared an appreciation meal for the town. A lot of folks also lined up for the free-will offering ice cream social sponsored by the United Lutheran WELCA. The bidding was hot on the pie and “Sensational Sweet” auction which raised several thousand dollars for the 2011 Ringsted Relay for Life. After the Little Miss Mermaid Coronation, the Relay For Life luminaries were lit.

Danish Days continue Saturday with the “Back to the Old Country” car show in the lot south of Dan’s repair. Judging starts at 10 a.m. with door prizes and trophies at 12:30. Also Saturday, city-wide garage sales will be held from 8 a.m. to noon with maps at sale sites. The second annual Danish Days 5K fun run and one-mile fun run/walk will also start at 8 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church.

The Danish American Fellowship will open its food stand with authentic Danish goodies from 8 a.m. to noon. A new event this year will be remembering “The Good Old Days” in Ringsted at the American Legion with Amelia Petersen and Axel Thomsen.

“Little Red and the 3 Little Pigs”, a presentation by Treasure Village Theatre, will be held at the American Legion at 11 a.m. Art in the park will be featured from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Rail Road Park.

Pop and ice cream floats will be offered in Rail Road Park from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Rail Road Park to help benefit Ringsted Relay For Life. Free watermelon will be offered at Rail Road Park at 1 p.m. courtesy of Ringsted Telephone Company.

Danish Days dinner theater will be held at the American Legion starting at 4:30 p.m. The headliners include Glenn Henriksen, Billy Hansen, Millie K, Sean Bentz and other friends. Doors open to the public at 4 p.m. with the meal following the show.

Sound Waves DJ and Karaoke will round out the evening’s entertainment at Half Time Bar and Grill from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Sunday events start at 9:45 with a coffee fellowship at the American Legion sponsored by the Ringsted Library Board. A free-will donation will be accepted for the carpet fund.

An ecumenical church service will follow at 10:30 a.m. at the American Legion.

Sunday events conclude with T-ball games at the Ringsted ball diamond at 6:30 p.m.
