Lower-income applicants sought for housing program

By Staff | Apr 2, 2011

The Northwest Iowa Regional Housing Trust Fund Board of Directors Thursday discussed ways to get word out about money available for people to repair or renovate their homes.

The board is particularly interested in contacting those earning less than 30 percent of area median income. Thirty percent of the trust fund’s grant from the state must go to that sector.

Board members suggested that information be provided to Upper Des Moines Opportunity, Inc. and Mid-Sioux Opportunity in the western side of the trust fund service area.

Home owner-occupants interested in the program may contact the UDMO office in the Emmet County Annex, call Carol Keizer, planner at Northwest Iowa Planning & Development Commission at 1-800-798-7224 Ext. 140 or go online to: www.nwipdc.org/content.php?idnews=27

In other business in Thursday’s telephonic meeting, the board approved a three-year contract with Winter, Stave & Co. of Spencer and Milford for audit services at $3,950 a year. The board also agreed to set aside money for the audit from 2011 funds.
