Tara Paul, curriculum director at Columbus Community School District in Columbus Junction, has accepted the position of superintendent at Estherville Lincoln Central effective July 1.

Paul will replace superintendent Dick Magnuson who retires June 30.

Paul was chosen from among four finalists.

Paul is the first woman to serve as superintendent in the school’s history. Two of the four finalists were women.

“I am very excited that she has chosen to join Estherville Lincoln Central,” said Jodie Greig, board president. “I think she will be an asset to not only the school district but the area as well. She’s extremely positive about education.”

Greig said Paul’s position as curriculum director at Columbus Community School District brought a lot of strength to the table. Greig said Paul also has a lot of experience with diversity at the school.

Greig said Paul also thoroughly researched Estherville and the community before the interview.

“She knew about our district. She knew what we’re doing,” Greig said.

Greig said Paul is married and has young children.
