Black Knights plan summer activities
The Black Knights Car Club planned upcoming summer events at the group’s monthly meeting Tuesday night at the Estherville VFW Trophy Room.
Monthly cruise-ins, which will be held 6:30-10 p.m. in Library Square, will start Friday, May 6. Other dates include Friday, June 3; Saturday, June 4, in conjunction with the Emmet County Relay For Life; Friday, July 1; Friday, Aug. 5, in conjunction with Sweet Corn Days and Friday, Sept. 2.
A special cruise-in will be held Saturday, July 23 in Riverside Park across from Woody’s Pizza pending approval by the Estherville City Council. That cruise-in is in conjunction with Woody’s Pizza’s 50th anniversary celebration which will feature music by The Senders.
The Sweet Corn Days Car Show will be held noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6 along North Sixth Street in Estherville. Registration will be from 10 a.m. to noon at the corner of First Avenue and Sixth Street. Entry fee is $10 and dash plaques will go to the first 100 entries with door prizes for registrants.
At 3 p.m. trophies will be awarded to the top 25 entries by participate vote. Special awards include Mayor’s Choice, Best Mopar, Best Ford, Best GM, Best Truck and
The airport drags are tentatively scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 25 at the Spencer Airport at 1957 330th St. west of the Clay County Fairgrounds near Spencer. Gates open at 9 a.m. with racing from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Races will be 350 feet side by side with a light start. Drags are $5 a pass or $20 all day. Spectator admission is $5 a person.
All vehicles must be inspected and safety inspectors will have the final say. Vehicles must be resistered, licensed and have proof of insurance. Only D.O.T.-approved tires will be allowed and there is no motorcycle class.
