ELC to review budget issues on MondayELC to review budget issues on Monday
The Estherville Lincoln Central School Board will have several budget items to address at its regular meeting at 5:15 p.m. Monday.
Prior to the meeting, a public hearing on the 2011-12 budget will be held at 5:10 p.m.
The proposed budget for the upcoming school estimates property taxes at just over $5 million, which requires a tax, levy of $16.61 per $1,000 assessed valuation.
School officials are planning that the Iowa Legislature will set the allowable growth rate at zero percent.
Should the legislature agree to a 2 percent allowable growth rate, the levy can be lowered.
ELC Superintendent Dick Magnuson said after the budget is published, the school board isn’t allowed to raise the rate, but they can take action to lower it.
Other items concerning the budget include acting on the agreement between the school district and the custodial union.
The school board negotiating team has agreed to a 25-cent per hour rate increase with a total package increase of 2.81 percent.
The school board is still in negotiations with the Estherville Area Education Association and a mediation session has been scheduled for Tuesday, April 12.
The board also tentatively plans to meet at 5:15 p.m. on Monday, April 18 to review a budget reduction plan.
