Runners of all ages and abilities are invited to the first-ever Team Amy run Saturday, May 7.

The race starts and finishes at the corner of 21 N. Seventh St. in Estherville just outside Interchange 71 at the intersection of North Seventh Street and First Avenue North.

The race is in honor of Amy Jensen, standout Estherville Lincoln Central runner who passed away after a long and courageous battle against cancer.

Amy’s mother, Terri Hanson, said Amy had told her she wanted any memorial money from her passing to go toward a youth center. Terri said Amy knew Estherville youth needed a safe hangout. As a result, Amy’s sisters, Crystal Clabaugh and Jill Gifford, decided to put together this year’s run. All proceeds this year will go to Interchange 71 youth center with proceeds next year going to help victims of childhood cancer.

Terri recalled how Amy lost her job because she had to make frequent hospital trips. However, her many caring friends held a fundraiser to help pay for her cell phone so she could stay in touch with her friends.

Anywhere from 100-300- runners are expected, Hanson said.

The 10K race starts at 9 a.m. with the 5 K and mile fun run starting at 9:30 a.m. Fees are $25 and $30 after April 21. Awards will go to the tope male runner and top female runner. All children 12 and under will get a children’s medal.

The pre-registration deadline is April 21 and all pre-registrations get a dri-fit T-shirt.

Team Amy race directors are Crystal Clabaugh, Sonya Gjerde, Morgan Schichtl, Jodie Greig, Terri Hanson, Jill Gifford, Pam Caboth and Kyle Schubert.
