Bohm to assume assessor position May 2
Barb Bohm, previously Emmet County assistant auditor and information technology administrator, will assume the position of assessor May 2. Bohm was appointed by the Emmet County Board of Supervisors.
Bohm replaces Jill Burgeson who resigned last Dec. 31 to take the deputy assessor’s position in Dickinson County.
Bohm grew up in Harris and graduated from Iowa Lakes Community college. She worked in a number of Estherville businesses before first joining the county in the Emmet County Public Health office in 1991 as administrative assistant, a post she held for nine years. Bohm complemented that part-time position with duties in the recorder and treasurer’s office and as zoning secretary before joining the auditor’s office in 2000 in her most recent position. She also previously worked with the assessor’s office in developing software programs and gained knowledge of Emmet County real estate while working in the auditor’s office.
Bohm joins an experienced staff: Dar Lewis, appraiser; Nancy Bebo, GIS coordinator and Sharon Woodyard, office manager.
“The staff is very knowledgeable and I plan to learn a lot from them,” Bohm said. “They’re a very good staff.”
“I’m excited about it,” Bohm said. “I’m excited to be able to serve the citizens of Emmet County in a different role.”
Bohm and her husband, Marty, have two children, Melia, 27, who lives in Mankato, Minn., and Holden, 23, who lives in Sherburn with his wife, Jess, and their son.
The assessor’s office compiles and assigns values to real estate throughout the county. The Emmet County Board of Supervisors is scheduled to review applications for Bohm’s position today.
